Darcys Law
Brand | EEE |
In 1856, a hydraulic engineer named Henri Darcy, from the city of Dijon, France developed the first documented apparatus for observing the movement of water through a porous medium. He found that the water flow through his apparatus was proportional to the difference in the height of the water between the two ends of the apparatus, which, in turn, is inversely proportional to the length of the flow path. Also, Darcy discovered that the quantity of flow depends on the nature of the porous medium. However, before Darcy made these discoveries, there were two other scientists, Gotthilf Hagen (1839) and Jean Louis Poiseulle (1846), who discovered that the rate of flow of water through capillary tubes is proportional to the hydraulic gradient. From his experiment, Darcy was able to derive a formula through which the rate of flow could be calculated. This became known as Darcy's Law: Q=KiA
Range of Experiments :
1. The results of Darcy's experiments indicated that the rate at which a fluid moves through a porous
medium (Q) is proportional to the difference in hydraulic head of the water along the column and the characteristics of the porous medium and the column length.

Electrical Analogy Apparatus
Minimum Order Quantity: 1 Unit
Introduction :
Electrical Analogy Apparatus helps students to study the similarity between flow of electric current and flow of water through a closed conduit. The flow in the first system is governed by the Ohm's law whereas that in the latter case is governed by DarcyWeisbach equation. The apparatus consists of a transparent tray 450 mm x 400 mm x 100 mm deep in which hydraulic models under study such as Orifices, Mouthpieces, weir etc., Can be arranged.
The necessary conductor and insulator plates (Bakelite) will be cut by the user as per the
requirement. A trolley mounted on the tray can be traversed in two planes on which probe can be
mounted and equipotential lines traced.Trolley will be fitted with scales to locate probe positions.

Heleshaw Apparatus
Minimum Order Quantity: 1 Unit
Introduction :
“EEE” Heleshaw Apparatus is made out of Perspex sheets. Water and dye are allowed to flow from the two small tanks, one containing water and other containing a dye solution , placed at the top of Perspex sheets. Small holes are drilled at the bottom of these two tanks; which open between the spacing between two Perspex sheets. At the bottom a small tube with pinch cock is provided which controls the flow. It is possible to keep a transparent sheet of paper against one of the Perspex sheets and trace out the streamline pattern. By changing the model, change in the streamline pattern can be studied.
